About ICO

Role Purpose

The Communications, Online Visibility and Public Recognition Volunteer will support the ICO team in strengthening the organisation's communications, online presence and public profile. The volunteer will assist with organising communications materials, promoting ICO's work across digital platforms, and helping showcase the organisation's impact to partners, supporters and wider audiences.

Working alongside the ICO team, the volunteer will contribute to the development of communications resources, support digital engagement, and assist with raising awareness of ICO's projects, partnerships and achievements. A significant area of support will be assisting the team with developing and organising materials for ICO's "10 Years of ICO" project, which celebrates a decade of the organisation's work and impact.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain practical experience in communications, public relations, digital engagement and charity communications while contributing to an organisation making a positive difference internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Working under the guidance of the ICO team, the volunteer will support activities such as:

● Assisting with the organisation and development of communications materials relating to ICO's projects, achievements and partnerships.

● Supporting the compilation and organisation of information, photographs, publications, reports and media coverage for the "10 Years of ICO" project.

● Helping organise ICO's achievements, advocacy work and institutional milestones into accessible communications resources.

● Assisting with the preparation and scheduling of content for LinkedIn and other digital platforms.

● Supporting the development and distribution of newsletters and Mailchimp campaigns.

● Assisting with drafting and editing press releases, news stories and organisational updates.

● Helping identify opportunities to increase ICO's online visibility and public recognition.

● Supporting the maintenance of a consistent communications style and organisational voice across digital platforms.

● Conducting online research to identify media, communications and partnership opportunities.

● Providing general communications and administrative support to the ICO team as required.

**Essential Skills**

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

● Good research and information management skills.

● Confidence using Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

● An interest in communications, media, marketing, public relations or the charity sector. ● The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

**Desirable Skills**

● Experience creating content for social media platforms.

● Familiarity with LinkedIn, Mailchimp or similar communications tools.

● Experience writing articles, blogs, newsletters or press releases.

● An interest in international development, community engagement or advocacy.

● Previous experience in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.

Working Arrangements

This is a flexible volunteer role requiring approximately 10–15 hours per week, with working hours agreed in advance with the ICO team. The volunteer will work closely with Tallulah Pollock and Charlie Grant, supporting ongoing communications, online visibility and public recognition activities. Guidance, mentoring and regular feedback will be provided throughout the placement.
