About this opportunity
**Background**
Light Up Hope - Africa (LUH-A) is implementing a School Feeding Program (SFP) across 208 Public Primary schools in Kajiado County and 1 school in Nairobi with the aim of enabling access to a life altering change through provision of lunch to improve enrolment, retention and transition. The program is now working on sustainability through the Sustainable School Meals Project(SSMP) aimed at production of poultry, vegetables, cereals, legumes and fruits in schools.
Kajiado County is primarily an arid and semi-arid land (ASAL) characterized by water scarcity, erratic rainfall, and diminishing groundwater levels. Schools in this region frequently struggle with water security, affecting sanitation, hygiene, and the viability of agricultural projects.
To build climate resilience and support sustainable agriculture within schools, LUH-A intends to implement water infrastructure solutions across 20 targeted schools in Kajiado. A qualified engineering or agricultural water solutions consultant is therefore required to assess each site's unique parameters and recommend the most efficient water distribution and irrigation systems.
**Purpose of the Assignment**
The primary objective is to conduct comprehensive site visits to 20 specified schools as listed within Kajiado County, assess their existing water infrastructure, and provide professional recommendations and itemized Bill of Quantities (BoQ) ) for the water solutions-.
**Scope of Work**
1. Site Assessments & Data Collection:
- Travel to all 20 designated schools across Kajiado County and assess the availability, yield, reliability, and quality of existing water sources,
- Evaluate the layout, elevation changes, soil types, and available acreage for irrigation or piping networks at each school,
- Consult the school administration to understand their specific water needs, challenges, and operational capacity.
2. Technical Design & Advisory:
1. Evaluate and advise on the most viable technical solution whether it requires drip kits, sprinklers, expanded plumbing/piping networks, storage or a hybrid system.
2. Ensure designs incorporate water-saving technologies where possible to minimize pumping costs, and solar-power compatibility if applicable.
3. Determine optimal storage tank capacities, plumbing specifications, filtration requirements, and pressure management components needed for sustainable operation.
Reporting & Costing:
- Develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for the supply, delivery and installation of the recommended systems per school in coordination with LUH team,
- Provide a phased roadmap and estimated timelines for physical execution.
- Present findings and recommendations on or before **30th June, 2026**
**Deliverables**
- Brief methodology, work plan, and schedule of school visits.
- Technical findings for the 20 schools, mapping out suggested systems per site.
- Comprehensive final report including engineered system designs, cost estimates, and maintenance guidelines.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil/Water Engineering, Hydrology, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of verified experience designing and installing irrigation systems and institutional water piping networks in Kenya.
- Specific experience working in ASAL regions, preferably within Kajiado County, with an understanding of local groundwater dynamics and soil types.
- Registration with relevant professional bodies is a strong asset.
- Valid Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
