**Background**
Vétérinaires Sans Frontières - Germany (VSF Germany) is a non-governmental, non-profit making international Organization, engaged in the field of veterinary relief and development work providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, and food safety, VSFG works towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities. VSF Germany implements activities in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Somalia.
VSF Germany seeks to recruit qualified and well experienced staff for the position of **Project Officer - Food Security and Livelihoods** to be based at VSF Germany office at the **field location of Fangak and Pigi/Canal counties with frequent field travel in the two counties in South Sudan**. The holder of this position will have an overall environmental and social safeguards oversight for all projects implemented in South Sudan Country Program under VSF Germany.

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**
This position will be assigned the following duties and responsibilities:
• Engages primarily in the implementation of SCRLR (Sudan Crisis Regional Life-Saving Response) in Fangank and Pigi/Canal Counites of Jonglei State.
• Engage in the activities contributing for the protection most vulnerable household communities to recurrent drought through Agriculture, Animal health services, Fishery and Multi-purpose cash support in Fangak and Pigi/Canal Counties of Jonglei State
• Actively engage in the establishment of committee at each County and target Payam level and facilitate awareness creation workshop on project activities, awareness on protection principles of GBV in the two counties
• Engage in Payam level targeting and selection of beneficiary households for the project activity interventions
• Participates in the development of a detailed implementation plan with staff and partners/stakeholders;
• Ensures that each activities of the project are interlinked and comprehensively covered;
• Provides technical assistance and support to other team members of the project.
• Makes sure that project activities are performed in line with the work plan;
• Participates in project activity and budget planning
• Lead project implementation, monitoring, follow up and evaluation at payam levels
• Ensures that summary of community meetings, seminars or workshops facilitated and or attended by project staff is well documented and shared with others;
• Together with the Project Manager, compiles monthly, quarterly, midterm and annual reports for government, Donors and other partners;
• Together with the Project Manager, properly document the achievements and lessons of the project activities and share with concerned stakeholders
• In close consultation with the Program Manager, liaises with relevant government institutions, counterparts, NGO and CBO partners with the objective of effective implementation of the project activities;
• Establishes an effective working relationship with other partner’s staffs, government, non-governmental and community-based organizations;
• Participate and led beneficiary identification with stakeholders and document process and keep beneficiary lists and other related documents of the project.
• Work cordially with local partners, authorities and leaders in reaching the beneficiaries.
• Keeps herself/himself updated about recent developments in assigned technical areas and related issues;
• Facilitates trainings, workshops, experience sharing visits, etc that are related to the needs of target beneficiaries and government line departments
**Experience, Skills and Knowledge Requirements**
• University Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Food Security/ Livelihoods, Agriculture, Pastoralism, or a related field;
• Minimum five (5) years of practical experience in implementing Livestock health, Agriculture, and Multipurpose cash interventions with NGOs. Two years of relevant working experience in International NGOs preferably in Greater Upper Nile Region
• Familiarity with GFFO Emergency Response frameworks.
• Analytical skills for market analysis; fluency in English.
• Strong interpersonal skills; fluency in English and local languages.
• Field experience in South Sudan or similar settings. Preferred from the local, as the position has no accommodation or transport allowance in Fangak or Pigi/Canal.
• Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, participatory approach and sustainable development
