About this opportunity
The United Nations Joint Medical Service is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Consultant for a six-month assignment based in Nairobi, with visits to Dadaab and Kakuma.
The consultant will ensure that medical equipment across JMS clinics is safe, functional, properly maintained and effectively managed throughout its lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
Inspecting, installing, calibrating, servicing and troubleshooting biomedical equipment.
Updating equipment inventories and assessing functionality, safety and maintenance requirements.
Developing preventive maintenance and calibration schedules.
Identifying equipment requiring repair, replacement, upgrading or disposal.
Preparing technical specifications and supporting equipment procurement and acceptance testing.
Standardising biomedical equipment and maintenance procedures across JMS facilities.
Training healthcare staff on proper equipment use, safety and basic maintenance.
Supporting the relocation, installation, testing and commissioning of equipment at the new clinic.
Preparing assessment, maintenance, procurement, training and final consultancy reports.
Developing a long-term equipment management, replacement and disposal plan.

Requirements / Eligibility
- High school diploma and additional training in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
- Diploma in Biomedical Engineering.
- Valid registration with the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible biomedical engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, calibrating, commissioning and evaluating medical equipment.
- Hands-on experience managing hospital equipment in a clinical setting, particularly emergency and critical-care equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment from different manufacturers is desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Fluency in English.
