About this opportunity
**Organisation:** NGO Management Association (NMA)
**Location:** Remote
**Time commitment:** 8–12 hours per week
**Duration:** Six months, with the possibility of extension
**Application deadline**: 6 July 2026
**Type of engagement:** Volunteer role or internship, depending on the candidate’s circumstances and any requirements of their educational institution.
**About the NGO Management Association and NGO Management School**
This opportunity is advertised through NGO Management School, the training and learning platform of the NGO Management Association (NMA). The successful candidate will work with NMA and support communications across its activities and services.
The NGO Management Association (NMA) is a Geneva-based non-profit organisation that supports NGOs and other social-purpose organisations worldwide to strengthen their management, governance and impact. Since 2007, NMA has provided training, consultancy and coaching in more than 20 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
NMA also establishes and facilitates communities of practice that enable organisations and practitioners to learn from one another, address shared challenges and apply new approaches in their day-to-day work. We currently work with partners in Kenya, South Sudan, Côte d’Ivoire and Thailand through communities of practice and related learning initiatives.
**The Role**
This opportunity may be undertaken either as a volunteer position or, where relevant institutional requirements can be met, as an internship.
Working with the Executive Director, you will turn NMA’s activities, courses and work with communities of practice into clear and engaging communications for partners, participants and supporters. Your main responsibilities will include creating content, managing NMA’s social media channels and making light updates to the website.
This is a practical, hands-on role. You will help ensure that NMA’s communications are clear, consistent and visible to non-profit leaders, partners and course participants.
As an enthusiastic self-starter, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, take ownership of communications tasks and help extend the reach of NMA’s services. In return, you will gain practical experience in international non-profit communications, work with organisations and professionals across different regions, and develop valuable skills within a small, internationally engaged NGO.
**Key Responsibilities**
Initial priorities will be agreed with the Executive Director based on NMA’s communication needs and the successful candidate’s experience.
**Communications Planning**
- Help develop NMA’s international communications approach, including target audiences, key messages and communication objectives.
- Maintain a practical communications calendar covering courses, events, communities of practice and other activities.
- Suggest actions to improve NMA’s visibility and engagement with non-profit leaders, partners and course participants.
**Content and Social Media**
- Draft, edit and publish clear content for newsletters, announcements, course descriptions and other communications.
- Manage NMA’s social media presence, primarily on LinkedIn, and keep the accounts active and up to date.
- Create simple visuals and schedule posts promoting courses, events and key activities.
- Encourage interaction through comments, questions, polls and other appropriate formats.
- Respond to routine enquiries and refer requests requiring further input to the appropriate team member.
- Monitor basic engagement data and use it to suggest improvements.
**Website Content**
- Make routine website updates, including editing text, adding course information and creating simple new pages.
- Check that published information is accurate, consistent and current.
- Identify content or structural improvements for consideration; no web-development work is required.
**Team Coordination**
- Work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to agree priorities and gather the information needed for communications.
- Participate in planning calls and translate new initiatives into accessible digital content.
- Help maintain consistent language, tone and presentation across NMA’s communication channels.
**Profile**
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and engaging content for different audiences. French and Spanish are assets.
- Demonstrated experience in communications, digital content creation and social media management.
- A good eye for presentation and the ability to create simple, professional visual content.
- Proven ability to use Google Workspace, Zoom, Canva, LinkedIn, YouTube and other major social media platforms effectively in day-to-day communications work.
- Well organised, attentive to detail and able to manage agreed tasks and deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently, taking initiative and asking for input when needed.
- Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and partners working remotely across different countries and time zones.
- Familiarity with the non-profit sector or international cooperation is an advantage.
**What We Offer**
- A flexible, part-time unpaid volunteer/intern role of approximately 8–12 hours per week.
- A fully remote working arrangement, with flexibility to organise working hours around agreed priorities and meetings.
- Practical experience in international non-profit communications and direct collaboration with NMA’s leadership and partners.
- Scope to contribute ideas, take ownership of agreed tasks and build a portfolio of communications work.
- A reference letter following the completion of the agreed volunteer period.
